Waterford partners with artist for single malt launch

Mark Reynier’s Waterford Distillery has teamed up with artist Leah Hewson to provide a bottle label for its new single malt.

This autumn, the Irish whiskey producer will unveil its single malt whiskey The Cuvée, which can function Hewson’s art work Binary Assimilation on the bottle.

Identified for her work with optical illusions, color, vibrancy and shapes, the Irish artist was chosen by the distillery for her creative skill to replicate the ‘layers and complexities’ inside Waterford’s distillation course of.

Created solely for Waterford, Binary Assimilation can be printed on the bottle label for The Cuvée to replicate ‘the immense sensory expertise of terroir-driven whiskey consumption’.

Terroir, a time period generally used within the wine trade, is the concept that environmental circumstances comparable to microclimate and soil can affect flavour. A recent study by Waterford Distillery concluded terroir does have an effect on the flavour of whiskey. 

To provide The Cuvée, every crop of barley is harvested, malted and distilled individually by Waterford Distillery. The ultimate liquid is a mix of 23 single-farm-origin single malts.

Reynier, founder and CEO of Waterford Distillery, mentioned: “That is no strange whiskey – it’s our lodestar, a key milestone on our terroir-driven journey. 

“Its imaginative and prescient and evolution derived from unprecedented logistics deserves an equally excellent label. We commissioned considered one of Eire’s main artists to create a recent picture that was not like one other whiskey label.

Leah Hewson’s creative contribution to the product is claimed to replicate ‘the intricate nature’ of the whiskey.

Hewson mentioned: ”Binary Assimilation celebrates the numerous layers and complexities of Waterford’s strategy to whiskey manufacturing. The model’s scientific and methodical strategy displays my very own, and this supplied an inspiration to sync artwork, flavour and character into one thing visually putting.

Waterford launched its first commercial Irish whiskey series, Single Farm Origin, in Could 2020.
