Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is based on the graphic novel series “Scott Pilgrim” by Bryan Lee O’Malley and stars Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim. In the film, Pilgrim is a slacker musician who must win a competition to get a record deal, and battle seven evil exes of his newest girlfriend Ramona Flowers, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The movie also stars Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Mae Whitman, Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, Alison Pill, Jason Schawartzman, and Brie Larson. Although the film was a box office disappointment, grossing $31.5 million on a $60 million budget, critics loved the film as it carries a fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes of 82% and it has since gained a huge cult following.
In addition to the theatrical re-release and the planned Ultra HD release, the film’s cast reunited for a virtual table read last summer to commemorate its 10th anniversary. Also, likely due to high demand, the re-release expanded dates. The film was originally only supposed to play in theaters from April 30 to May 6 in Dolby Vision/Atmos theaters but additional screenings were added this weekend at AMC Theatres. It’s nice to see this film getting the love it deserves because it’s honestly more than just a cult film. It’s inventive from start to finish and one of the best of its kind.
