Edinburgh’s Old Curiosity Distillery will change its name to The Secret Garden Distillery to emphasise the company’s ‘rooted in nature’ values.
Effective from 3 May 2021, the distillery will also rename its products ‘Secret Garden Gin’. The move will accentuate the company’s links to its botanical garden.
Founded by entrepreneur and herbologist Hamish Martin, The Old Curiosity Distillery is located on a 7.5-acre site based outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. The distillery was established in 2017.
The site was purchased by Martin and his wife Liberty in 2012 with the aim of creating The Secret Herb Garden, which has more than 600 varieties of herbs and plants.
In addition, the distillery has named André de Almeida as its new managing director to help expand the brand, and its range of spirits and health products across the world.
De Almeida will be responsible for expanding the distillery’s presence across its markets. He will work with existing distributors and develop new partnerships.
Martin said: “Having André at the helm means I can dedicate all my time to the development of our botanics and garden – this means I can support him by being here full time to communicate and physically highlight our total commitment to working hand in hand with nature. We are so excited for the future and all that it will bring.”
De Almeida has worked in senior roles across the spirits sector and global travel retail, including at companies such as Edrington, William Grant & Sons and Loch Lomond Group.
He said: “Hamish has built a unique business proposition underpinned by his passion and with nature at the heart of everything.
“There are some exciting developments to come in the next few years and I am looking forward to bring these to fruition.”
