Mayans M.C., renewed, season 4, JD Pardo, FX

FX is letting the Mayans ride once again! It has been announced that Mayans M.C. has been renewed for a fourth season. The news comes ahead of the Sons of Anarchy spinoff airing its season 3 finale on May 11, 2021.

Mayans M.C. survived a difficult time for the series when co-creator Kurt Sutter was fired for his alleged unprofessional behavior. Co-creator Elgin James took over as showrunner during the current third season & the fact that the show has earned a season 4 renewal shows that James is doing a solid job being at the helm. James had this to say about the renewal:

“I am deeply indebted to everyone at FX and 20th for allowing us to continue to tell the stories of the characters that Kurt and I created and whom our cast and crew took to new heights in Season 3. In Season 4 we look forward to diving deeper into each character’s truths, exploring the danger of the combustible world they inhabit, and for each writer, cast member and crew to stake out our place as storytellers.”

Mayans M.C., through eight episodes this season, is averaging 741,000 same-day viewers per episode, a figure that typically doubles within three days via various platforms. It also appears that the overall vibe on set has been much better since Sutter left the series. Clayton Cardenas, who plays Angel on the show, said the writing improved during season three after his departure and the environment was much more inviting. Cardenas had this to say about how things changed on the series when Sutter was fired:

“It’s night and day. It’s like the best thing that could have ever happened for the show. The environment that we get to work [in], it’s such a fun–it’s a welcoming, comforting environment. You know, everybody’s excited to come to work. I personally feel like I’m at an advantage, finally. I feel like I’m put in the position to succeed. I feel like the writing is meant for me. I feel like I’m not having to force dialogue, you know? I feel like the writing just rolls off my tongue now. Elgin is such an amazing creator and writer and, you know, he creates this familial bond on set,” Cardenas continued. “So again, it makes it welcoming. And everybody’s proud of what’s being done, everybody feels their voice is heard. And what more could you want? You know, what more could you want from a creator and director?”

Mayans M.C. follows the life of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, played by JD Pardo. Reyes is a newly patched member of the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Reyes & his brother Angel (Clayton Cardenas) are closer than ever after uncovering the truth behind their mother’s murder while their father Felipe (Edward James Olmos) struggles to reconcile the choices he and his sons have made. Additionally, the Mayans seek vengeance on their rivals, the Tijuana M.C. Vatos Malditos, after a surprise attack on their club. Once the smoke clears, they discover the body of a Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original and now there will be hell to pay. The series also stars Michael Irby, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, Sulem Calderon, Ray McKinnon, Carla Barratta, & Danny Pino.
