Goa Municipal Election 2021 Results Live Updates: Results for five — Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem — municipal councils will be declared today. Voting for these councils in Goa were held on April 23. As many as 402 candidates were in the fray for five councils. A total of 1,85,225 voters were eligible to cast their votes.

While elections were not fought on party symbols, all political parties, including BJP, Congress and Goa Forward Party have fielded their panels. The Goa Forward Party has forged an alliance with the Congress in Margao municipal council, while it fights against the BJP-led panel.

The stakes are high for all the parties, be it the ruling BJP, opposition Congress and the GFP. The states are heading to assembly elections just next year and the municipal polls are likely to set the stage for next year’s poll.

Goa Municipal Election: The ruling BJP won majority in five out of six municipal councils in Goa where elections were held on March 20. The party also won majority in the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) where election was held on the same day. While the elections were not fought on party lines, the BJP as well as the Congress had fielded panels led by their members. Panaji MLA and BJP leader Atanasio Monserratte’s panel won 25 out of 30 seats in the CCP which governs the state capital.

The ruling party’s panels also won in Canacona, Curchorem, Bicholim, Valpoi and Pernem municipal councils, while a Congress-led panel won majority only in Cuncolim municipal council.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said people have once again placed their faith in the BJP. “Though the elections were not fought on party lines, the panels fielded by the party won with majority,” he said, adding that the BJP will form ruling bodies in all these municipal councils and the CCP. (PTI)

Goa Municipal Election result 2021: Reports suggest that a deputy collector has urged all contesting candidates to refrain from organising any rally, procession or meeting after counting of votes. He has said that no permission shall be issued for such rallies and any contravention will be viewed seriously.

The polls in these five municipal councils were postponed after a High Court order. The court had said that the procedures followed for reservation of municipal poll constituencies for women, SC, ST and OBCs were not correct. The High Court’s decision was upheld by the Supreme Court which directed the State Election Commission to complete the polls by April 30.
