The Union Health Ministry has released the daily corona update and the numbers are very, very alarming! In the last 24 hours, 1,84,372 Indians have been infected with the novel coronavirus. The Covid deaths have also crossed the 1,000 mark. In the last 24 hours, 1,027 people have lost their lives due to the Covid complications 

While the Thackeray govt has tried very hard to not spook the public and not even used the term ‘lockdown’ for the latest curfew, the fear among the migrants is palpable. An Indian Express report says that the exodus has already begun. As many as 2,000 people are still on the waiting list for tickets of the trains running towards Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Many were seen camping outside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The railways on its part has said that this is ‘usual summer rush’.

  • First up, the Maharashtra curfew. No, it’s not a hard lockdown. While the stress is on allowing the essential activities, the key factor is that there is no ban on public transport.
  • An Indian Express report has said that the officials in Maharashtra have said that new findings show that there may be a possible link between the double mutant strain of the coronavirus and the increase in the number of cases since March.
  • Elsewhere, Uttar Pradesh has also registered a sharp spike in cases.  
  • A growing number of people are demanding the CBSE to cancel the exams. Yesterday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal joined the list.
