Coronavirus India Lockdown LIVE tracker, Covid Live updates: The ugly reality of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has hit home as India overtook Brazil to become the second worst-hit nation in the world. India has arrived at this grim milestone as states are reporting a high caseload day after day. While Maharashtra continues to be the most affected state in India at the moment, other states have also shown a disturbing rise in the cases. In terms of metro cities, by Monday evening, Delhi had recorded over 11,000 cases. This caseload is far worse than Mumbai.

Photos of migrants have started appearing on news channels and social media confirming the worst fears of many. As Maharashtra contemplate hard lockdown, people have started migrating to their hometowns. Many have said that while the picture may not be as bad as what we saw in 2020, things still look very bleak. Migrants have been seen at the railway stations, bus stops in Maharashtra, Delhi and other states moving back to their villages.

While the health infrastructure cries for help, the government has approved another corona vaccine. Russia’s Sputnik V will be available soon, reports say. As health experts say that people must be dissuaded from gathering in large numbers, Uttarakhand is hosting one of the largest religious congregation on the Earth – Kumbh Mela 2021. The Indian Express reports that on Monday on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya’s ‘Shahi Snan’, over 28 lakh people visited the Mela site to take the holy dip! Similar huge numbers were seen in the election rallies in West Bengal with many political parties flaunting the ‘huge support’ on social media.

While there is no official word on the link between the ‘double mutant strain’ and the fresh Covid surge, reports suggest that it is increasingly becoming difficult to detect the strain even by the RT-PCR test. The ICMR need to do more research on this to bring any conclusive evidence about this.

Mizoram’s COVID-19 tally rose to 4,655 on Tuesday as 36 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. Thirty-two fresh cases were reported in Aizawl district, three in Lawngtlai and one in Champhai, he said. Sixteen of the new patients had returned from other states, while two had come from Myanmar, the official said. Mizoram now has 175 active cases, while 4,468 people have recovered from the disease and 12 patients have succumbed to the infection to date, he said. – PTI

A total of 1,61,736 new coronavirus infections have been reported in a day pushing India’s tally of cases to 1,36,89,453, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate dropped further to 89.51 per cent, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Monday. The death toll increased to 1,71,058 with 879 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. Registering a steady increase for the 34th day in a row, the number of active cases rose to 12,64,698, or 9.24 per cent of the total infections. The active caseload was at its lowest at 1,35,926 on February 12, 2021 and it was at its highest at 10,17,754 on September 18, 2020. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,22,53,697, while the case fatality rate has dropped further to 1.25 per cent, the data stated. – PTI

Telangana saw 3,052 fresh coronavirus cases, pushing the aggregate to over 3.32 lakh, while the toll rose to 1,772 with seven related fatalities. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 406, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (301) and Nizamabad (279), a government bulletin said on Tuesday providing details as of 8 PM on April 12. The total number of cases stood at 3,32,581 while with 778 patients being cured, the total recoveries were at 3,06,678. – PTI

Ahead of the urgent meeting between Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and the Covid task force, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has told the people of the state to be ‘mentally’ ready for the hard lockdown, an Indian Express report said on Tuesday. Though he didn’t give the details of the lockdown, Tope said that a prior notice will be issued so that proper arrangements can be made by the public. 

Russian Direct Investment Fund officials have said that the Drug Controller General of India has official given a go ahead for the restricted use of the Sputnik V Covid vaccine. India is the 60th nation to do so. 

With the addition of4,971 new cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra has reached 3,85,068, an official said on Tuesday. Besides these new cases reported on Monday, 26 more people also died of the viral infection, pushing the death toll in the district to 6,733, he said. The COVID-19 mortality rate in the district is 1.75 per cent, he said. So far, 3,20,820 patients have recuperated from the infection in the district, which reflects a recovery rate of 83.32 per cent. There are 57,515 active COVID-19 cases in Thane at present, the official said. – PTI

The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 5,201 on Tuesday as 11 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. All the fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said. Ten more people were cured of the disease, the official said. The Union territory now has 89 active cases, while 5,050 people have been cured of the disease and 62 patients have succumbed to the infection so far, he said. The administration has so far tested over 3.39 lakh samples for COVID-19, the official said. – PTI

Jharkhand’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1,41,750 on Tuesday as 2,366 more people tested positive for the infection, while 19 fresh fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 1,232, a health official said. Ranchi district reported the highest number of new cases at 787, followed by East Singhbhum (370) and Ramgarh (142), he said. Ranchi and Dhanbad districts recorded eight fresh fatalities each, followed by two in East Singhbhum and one in Lohardaga, the official said. – PTI

The health ministry has released the latest numbers of fresh Covid cases. According to the official data, 1.61 lakh new Covid-19 infections were detected in the last 24 hours. The Tuesday’s numbers are 4 per cent lesser than the Monday tally.
