Zack Snyder, Star Wars

Even going back to the Original Trilogy, each new Star Wars film has attracted a slew of potential directors, with Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, James Mangold, Robert Zemeckis, and more being considered for the gig at one point. Getting to play in the Star Wars sandbox would be a dream come true for many, but it’s not for everyone.

One director who frequently lands on fan-lists of potential Star Wars helmers is Zach Snyder, but while speaking with The Times recently, Snyder revealed that while he’d love to do it, he doesn’t think that he’d survive the experience, and considering everything he went through with Justice League, I can’t say I blame him.

Where it gets difficult is when you take a director with a personal point of view and ask him to participate in a thing that is not asking for that. The journeyman filmmaker? There are a lot of them, and they’re good. I just happen to have a specific point of view. The lesson I’ve learnt is it’s much easier for me, as a filmmaker, to create a world and invite you into it. As opposed to me saying, ‘Let me put my cog in your wheel.’ Like, I would love to make a Star Wars movie, I know a lot about it…but I don’t think I would survive that.

Although it doesn’t seem likely that Zack Snyder will be diving into the Star Wars universe anytime soon, there are plenty of Star Wars movies on the horizon, including a Rogue Squadron film from Patty Jenkins, a brand-new trilogy from Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson, as well as a handful of as-yet-unrevealed projects from Kevin Feige, Taika Waititi, and J.D. Dillard.

How would you feel about a Zack Snyder-helmed Star Wars movie?
