It seems that sports and fashion are intimately linked, as you will discover in this article!

Many of the biggest stars in sports have got involved in the fashion industry at some time or another, and most of them have done extremely well as a result. Whether going it alone or just making a sponsorship deal, a big star will rarely fail to make a splash in the world of clothing and fashion.

Let’s take a look at a handful of the biggest names who you’ll definitely have heard of, who are making millions thanks to their involvement in the world of fashion!

Michael Jordan

Okay, okay, it’s an obvious one to start with but Jordan’s success with the Air Jordan range of Nike trainers is one of the most well-known associations between sports and fashion. Perhaps the greatest player to ever grace a basketball court, Nike approached Jordan at the peak of his success in 1984, and have released new designs of Air Jordan sneakers every year since.

This arrangement has made Jordan one of the world’s richest men – it is widely believed that Michael has received over a billion dollars from Nike in licensing fees for the iconic footwear, and he’ll probably keep on receiving those royalties until the day he dies.

Roger Federer

Tennis Champion Roger Federer is ranked No. 7 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals, though some believe he should be placed even higher. Federer has won 20 Grand Slam men’s singles titles, a feat only matched by the Spanish Tennis legend Rafael Nadal. Federer has already secured his place at Wimbledon 2021 and Unibet Sportsbook offer shows us that he has a real shot at winning this title. He currently has odds of +800, making him the 4th favorite according to this important Canadian bookmaker.

Whilst Federer may not be as well-known as some Football (Soccer) players who we will discuss later, you wouldn’t know this if you looked at his earnings. In 2020, Federer reached the top position of the Forbes “World’s Highest-Paid Athletes” list, widely regarded as the definitive source.

Federer’s current primary association is with Japanese clothing company Uniqlo, though he has previously been an ambassador for Nike, NetJets, Emmi AG, and Maurice Lacroix. Other current deals include a host of high-brow names such as Rolex, Lindt, Mercedes-Benz, and Moet & Chandon, amongst others. With sponsorship deals like that – alongside his unbelievable skill at Tennis – it’s easy to see why Roger Federer is the world’s highest-paid athlete.

Tony Hawk

Some will know hawk more for his TV presence than his skating these days, but he was one of the best skateboarders to ever ride aboard in his day. Famous for being the first skater to ever land a 900, and of course the Tony Hawk series of games which have been a staple of console gaming ever since the days of the original PlayStation.

With a net worth of around $140 million, Tony’s skateboard company birdhouse makes Tony a great deal of cash each year. The company sells decks, complete boards, apparel, and accessories.

David Beckham

Regarded as a fashion icon by much of the industry, Beckham has a net worth of roughly $450 million and takes home over GBP 3.4 million every single year. After beginning his career with a long spell at Manchester United, Beckham moved to the states where he joined US team LA Galaxy.

Beckham and his wife Victoria are regarded as fashion specialists, and are sought after by clothing designers, health and fitness specialists, fashion magazines, perfume, and cosmetics manufacturers, hair stylists… the list goes on, but I think we get the picture. Beckham frequently appears on the cover of fashion magazines, and his clothing and hairstyles are widely covered in the media.

Serena Williams

American tennis superstar Serena Williams has won 23 grand slam titles, the most of any woman in the Open era. She has often been derided in the media for her unusual and colorful outfits on the court, but that hasn’t stopped huge fashion brands from seeking her out.

Williams formerly had a special line of shoes and apparel with Puma, before signing a US$40 million deal with Nike. She launched her own line of designer apparel in 2004, named “Aneres” – her first name spelled backward. More recently, Williams launched a sustainable clothing line, S by Serena. These clothes are available in sizes ranging from XCS to 3XL, intending to highlight this line’s focus on body inclusivity.
