RENFREW, Ontario — Greater than 300 members of United Steelworkers (USW) Native 4820 have voted to finish an eight-week strike in opposition to world firm Magellan Aerospace at its foundry close to Renfrew, Ont., an hour west of Ottawa.
A collective settlement between the union and Mississauga-based Magellan contains wage will increase of 4.6% over three years, pension and profit enhancements, in addition to higher working circumstances together with hours-of-work provisions and different protections.
“Magellan is a worldwide firm, whose expert workforce produces advanced specialty merchandise for aerospace functions worldwide,” stated USW Ontario Director Marty Warren.
“Our members fought for the respect they deserve and have gained a contract that acknowledges their ongoing contribution to the corporate and the neighborhood. Magellan is a significant financial participant within the Ottawa Valley and Ontario as a complete,” Warren stated.
“Daring to struggle for our rights throughout a pandemic was each daring and courageous,” stated USW Native 4820 President Leonard Godin.
“There may be actual energy within the union. The help it gives for staff means we’re in a position to rise up and wage a marketing campaign like this in a neighborhood that depends on our members’ work to maintain our households and the native economic system. I’m happy with what we have been in a position to obtain since our earlier collective settlement expired in March,” Godin stated.
Magellan staff on the Renfrew facility produce magnesium and aluminum castings.
