Made up of a drone and the main aircraft, the eVOTL by Los Angeles-based Talyn Air is set to fly three times farther than its competitors. Set to make a record for the longest flight for an electric aircraft, the unmanned drone will allow travelers to skip the airports and fly straight to their chosen destination with ease. Offering the capability to take-off and land anywhere, with vertical take-off and landing, it is 100% battery-electric powered.
With a max distance of 350 miles, 1000lb of payload, and a top speed of 205mph, it can fly comfortably up to five people. With the help of a large drone that attaches and releases from above, the eVOTL launches and lands with precision. The attached drone will use its own battery power to lift the eVOTL and when it reaches its flight level and flight-sustaining speed, it will release the eVOTL. Upon release of the eVOTL, the drone will automatically return to its base to recharge for another lift or landing mission.
Mimicking the pioneering Falcon 9, the two vehicles separate making it very efficient and aerodynamic. Achieving true regional mobility, Talyn’s eVTOL will fly three to five times as far as other battery eVTOL competitors as it takes advantage of ‘shedding’ the unnecessary weight in the flight of the drone. And when it comes to descent, it pairs with another lift vehicle which will guide the vehicle to a centrally located helipad.
