Luke Evans would love to play James Bond in the next 007 movie

With Daniel Craig ending his tenure as James Bond after this year’s NO TIME TO DIE, fans and actors themselves have thrown various names into the 007 hat to speculate who should play everyone’s favorite spy next. A name that I’m hearing for the first time is actor Luke Evans but not only would he jump at the chance to play the character, he believes he has the experience to pull it off.

Evans was recently asked if he would consider playing the famous spy once Craig leaves the role and Evans said that he has the cinematic experience to portray 007 along with the understanding of the responsibility that comes along with playing such an iconic character:

“I think I’ve cut my teeth very well in movies I’ve done and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. It’s a phenomenal job, a phenomenal franchise, an incredible role. I have to say though, it’s a daunting task for any actor to play the role after Daniel Craig. No one knows what’s happening. It’s a very secretive process and it’s a wonderful role. I would jump at the chance, as would many actors in my position, so we shall see. It will be an exciting casting moment for the Bond production and I wish whoever gets it the best of luck.

Throwing Evan’s name into the group just makes the notion of casting the next Bond a pretty exciting one because a lot of these names would really be worthy. From Idris Elba to Henry Cavill, to Tom Hardy, a lot of these actors would be more than capable and, at the end of the day, it’s really going to come down to the producers. As of now, producer Barbara Broccoli has made it very clear that the role still belongs to Craig and they won’t be thinking about his replacement until after the release of No Time To Die in October. Granted, these decisions could’ve begun being mulled over last year if No Time To Die would’ve made its original release date but COVID-19 clearly didn’t care about who was in line to be the next James Bond.

Speaking specifically about Evans, I think he does look the part and he has shown his skills in action films over the years, including the Fast & Furious franchise. Even if Broccoli says they aren’t actively looking for the next Bond, I wouldn’t be surprised if Luke Evans was one of the names on the list. He’s in the right age range, he’s physically fit, a solid actor, and he has dabbled in action. I see no reason why he shouldn’t be considered.

No Time To Die has faced multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic but it’s currently set to be released on September 30, 2021, in the United Kingdom and October 8, 2021, in the United States. The film will mark Craig’s fifth and final time playing James Bond and it picks up five years after the capture of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, with Bond having left active service. Bond finds that his retirement will be short-lived as he is approached by his friend and CIA officer Felix Leiter, who enlists Bond’s help in the search of Valdo Obruchev, a missing scientist. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, the film also stars Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Rory Kinnear, Ralph Fiennes, Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Billy Magnussen, and David Dencik.
