In the wake of worsening COVID-19 situation, ICSE and ICE board examinations have been cancelled for Class 10. The status of exams for class 12 remains the same as the previous order – Class 12 Exam (offline) will be conducted at a later date. This has been confirmed by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) in a notice issued on April 19 and circulated among the schools affiliated with the board. The notice was signed by the Chief Executive and Secretary of CISCE Gerry Arathoon where he informed all school principals regarding the latest decision.

According to the notice, the board had earlier given a chance (April 16 notice) for Class 10 students to take the board exam alongside Class 10 students. However, that notice has now been withdrawn and replaced with the new notice. The new notice clearly states that well being and safety of students as well as teachers have taken precedence and therefore the board will be cancelling the exams.

CISCE has also directed schools (having ICE sections) to begin the admissions process for Class 11 students in case they have not started. Arathoon said that the online class schedule for those promoted to Class 11 will also need to be updated at the earliest. The syllabus for this class will be set according to ISC 2023 syllabus.

Since Class 12 students have to take admissions to higher students, cancellation of board examination is not an option for them. Therefore, CISCE has decided to hold the examination as per the previous circular issued on April 16. According to this circular, the examinations have been postponed.

Meanwhile, Gerry Arathoon has ensured that a fair and unbiased criteria will be devised for these examinations and results. “The criterion on which basis the results will be declared for ICSE (Class 10) students and the date of result declaration will be announced by the CISCE later,” added Arathoon.
