Gable Erenzo, the former chief distiller for Hudson Whiskey producer Tuthilltown Spirits, has died at the age of 40.
In a Facebook post on 27 April, Hudson Whiskey confirmed the death of Erenzo – a ‘true craft spirits pioneer’.
Erenzo’s father Ralph co-founded Hudson Whiskey producer Tuthilltown Spirits with Brian Lee. Erenzo was also Hudson Whiskey’s first brand ambassador.
The post read: “Gable worked tirelessly with his father Ralph to develop and nurture the Hudson Whiskey and Tuthilltown Spirits’ brands before traveling the world as Hudson’s first brand ambassador.
“His bold personality, genuine warmth, and sense of humour brought joy to anyone he encountered.
“During our early years Gable’s unwavering determination fuelled our team with a passion and enthusiasm that continues to inspire our work today. We share our condolences with the entire Erenzo family and anyone else who was fortunate enough to know Gable.”
Scottish producer William Grant & Sons acquired Tuthilltown Spirits, based in New York’s Hudson Valley, for an undisclosed sum in 2017. The move came seven years after William Grant purchased Hudson Whiskey.
Erenzo went on to found Garden Mercantile Distillery in Hudson Valley in 2015. The site combines a distillery, retail shop and tasting room.
The distillery produces brandy using fruit and berries grown on Dressel’s Farm in New Paltz and Gardiner.
