If someone offered me a pill which meant that I would never have to sleep again — with no ill effects — I would absolutely take it. I won’t lie to you by saying that I’d use the extra time to be twice as productive, as I know damn well that I’d just watch movies all night, but I would love it. Unfortunately, the world of Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi/thriller AWAKE doesn’t give us that type of sleepless dream world; instead, it comes with all the disorientation, hallucinations, and hysteria one experiences when you’ve been up for days at a time. Bummer.
When a mysterious catastrophe wipes out all electronics and takes away humanity’s ability to sleep, scientists must race against the clock to find a cure for the unexplained insomnia before its fatal effects eliminate the human race. Gina Rodriguez stars as Jill, a former solider whose young daughter must just be able to save the world. Netflix has released the first trailer for Awake, which you can check out above.

The official synopsis for Awake:

Awake will debut on Netflix on June 9, 2021.
