Experience life like the birds with our selection of the most spectacular tree level walkways. While a high ropes course can be great fun, in this article we have instead focused on accessible pathways, some of which are wheelchair friendly.
19. Hainich Canopy Walk, Germany
Situated in the UNESCO World Heritage Hainich National Park, this walkway in Germany spans 540 meters. There are spectacular views of the Hainich mountain peak and the Thuringian Basin from the 4 meter high observation tower.
At the National Park Center you’ll find information about the forest, souvenirs and two interactive adventure worlds. The walkway is designed to be barrier-free and completely accessible, however the observation platform is only accessible by stairs.
For a unique wedding experience, you can get married on the canopy walkway between May and October. A covered platform has space for around 20 guests.

18. The Timber Trail, Czech Republic
The Tree Top Trail in Krkonoše National Park aims to educate visitors about local nature and wildlife. With a total length of over 1500 meters, this is a great way to explore the forest.
Also known as The Timber Trail, it passes next to 150 year old trees. The 45 meter high tower has a learning center at its base. You can walk down or take the 80 meter toboggan!
There are also 3 information boards on the horizontal walkway. This treetop trail is barrier free and accessible with a wheelchair.

17. Kakum Canopy Walk, Ghana
In Southern Ghana, Kakum National Park is home to many endangered species such as giant bongo antelopes, Diana monkeys and white-breasted guineafowl. A proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kakum is an important African conservation area.
Joseph Dudley, a conservation biologist, came up with the idea of the canopy walkway to help establish Kakum as an ecotourism destination. There are 7 bridges, running over 330 meters.
Several tree canopies are over 50 meters high. They’re quite narrow, but you can’t see the ground which is good if you have a fear of heights!

16. Anakeesta Treetop Skywalk, USA
The longest treetop skywalk in North America has 880 feet of hanging bridges. Located within Anakeesta theme park in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the skywalk is an exhilarating experience.
Suspended 50 to 60 feet in the air, the Anakeesta Treetop Skywalk has 16 bridges. Visitors to the park can also enjoy the views from Anavista Observation Tower.
This Tennessee landmark is the highest point in downtown Gatlinburg. Climb 84 steps to the top and see Vista Gardens through the glass panel floors.

15. Kirstenbosch Tree Canopy Walkway, South Africa
Located within Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, this famous South African landmark is nicknamed the Boomslang. It means tree snake, as the design was inspired by a snake skeleton.
There are 400 trees around the canopy walkway, including white stinkwoods, Cape saffrons and myrtle quince. Spanning 130 meters, the trail has a very gentle gradient and is accessible for all users.
Reaching 12 meters high in parts, the walkway offers views of the Cape Flats and the Kirstenbosch Gardens.

14. Treetop Trail Lipno, Czech Republic
Located in the picturesque region of South Bohemia, Lipno Treetop Walkway boasts one of the longest dry toboggans in the Czech Republic. That’s a good reward for climbing the 675 meters to the top!
There’s a nonagon shaped 40 meter observation tower which gives a great view of Lipnolake and the surrounding countryside. Transparent nets ensure perfect visibility.
The first of its kind in the country, Treetop Walkway Lipno also has three adventure stations with ropes at the 24 meters mark.
Reach the walkway by cable car or the Walkway Bus. If you don’t fancy taking the toboggan down, you can hire an off-road kickbike scooter. The walkway is barrier free and suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

13. Treetop Walk Bachledka, Slovakia
Also known as Chodnik Korunami Stromov, this scenic walk is located within the heart of Pieniny National Park. With an altitude of 82 meters above sea level and a 32 meter high observation tower, you have great views of the Belianske Tatras.
One of the highlights of this barrier free tree top walkway is the Adrenaline Net on the tower’s panoramic terrace. Sit on the net and look down 32 meters if you’re feeling brave!
There’s also a 67 meter long spiral slide for a further thrill. Or try to balance at the three adrenaline corners which although perfectly safe will certainly get your heart racing.

12. Black Forest Treetop Walk, Germany
Otherwise known as Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald in German, this gentle walkway is 1,250 meters long. Treetop Walk Black Forest is designed to be family friendly and accessible.
Situated in the Naturpark Schwarzwald Mitte/Nord in Bad Wildbad, this is a very picturesque area of Germany. The Northern Black Forest has a profusion of spruce, fir and beech trees.
You can get great views from the observation tower. The upper platform is 40 meters high.
A maximum gradient of 6% makes it easy to do this walk with a pushchair or wheelchair.
Take the 55 meter tunnel slide to the bottom if you’re feeling brave! In addition to the entry fee (currently €11.00 for adults, €9 for children from 6-14 years and free for under 6s) the price is €2.00 per slide.

11. Treetop Walk Salzkammergut, Austria
Nestled in the picturesque Austrian region of Salzkammergut, this treetop walk has panoramic views of the forest and Lake Traunsee. It’s best to reach this walkway by boat or train as there are limited parking spaces.
Walk up the 39 meter high observation tower which is built mostly out of wood to fit into the natural environment. The total length of the walkway is 1400 meters.
You can either walk down or take the 75 meter toboggan to the bottom. The additional cost is €2 per ride.

10. Pohorje Treetop Walk, Slovenia
Situated at the top of Mount Rogla in the Pohorje mountain range, this impressive treetop walk is 1043 meters long. There are several information panels along the trail, that will help you to learn more about the forest and its inhabitants.
Several adventure stations with ropes can be found at the 24 meter platform. The tower itself is 37 meters high.
There’s a 62 meter dry slide at the top, or you can walk back down. Designed for easy access, Pohorje treetop trail is fine for all ages and those with baby strollers or in wheelchairs.

9. STIHL Treetop Walkway, UK
Designed by Glenn Howells Architects, this 300 meter long walkway has a beautiful setting within the National Arboretum in Gloucestershire, England. Admire the world-famous collection of 15,000 trees from a height of 13 meters.
The longest treetop trail of its kind in the UK, it gives you great views of the Old Arboretum and Silk Wood. Taking the form of an S shape, the walkway has tapered wooden legs to minimize its visual impact from the ground.
The main walkway is accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Other attractions along the award-winning trail are the Crow’s Nest, rope bridge and interactive zones.

8. Treetop Walk Saarschleife, Germany
With a fantastic location overlooking the Saar River at Mettlach, this is one of the most popular tree top walkways in Germany. Measuring 1,250 meters, Treetop Walk Saarschleife passes next to beeches, oak trees and Douglas firs.
There are several educational and activity stations along the canopy walkway. The 42 meter high observation tower affords the visitor fine views of the Saarschleife valley and the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park.
You may even see the Vosges mountain range in France on clear days. At ground level, there’s the Futterkrippe Blumenfels restaurant and beer garden and Bistro Mirabell.

7. OCBC Skyway, Singapore
This is a rather unusual treetop trail, as the trees in question aren’t real! Part of the Gardens by the Bay complex in Singapore, the OCBC Skyway is a great vantage point.
The 128 meter long aerial walkway gives a different perspective of the 12 gardens at Supertree Grove. You’re required to book tickets in advance of your visit, but will be rewarded with wonderful photo opportunities.
Standing 22 meters high, the OCBC Skyway is particularly impressive at night when its lit up. You could even watch the Gardens by the Bay evening light and sound show from here if you time it right.

6. Treetop Walkway, UK
Royal Botanic Gardens Kew are known for their conservation work and huge variety of plants. Located 8.5 miles from London, the elevated walkway at Kew has a total length of 200 meters and stands 18 meters high.
Crafted from weathered steel, the canopy walk at Kew Gardens has been designed to blend in with the landscape. There are a number of different tree species next to the walkway, including horse chestnut, beech and oak.
At ground level, you’ll notice sculptures carved from tree trunks. Follow the pathway below ground to the Rhizotron, an underground exhibition space which takes you to tree root level.

5. Camp Adventure, Denmark
One of the most famous tree top walks in Europe can be found one hour South of Copenhagen. Designed by the architectural studio EFFEKT, the Camp Adventure Forest Tower is part of the largest climbing park in Denmark.
Within the park, you’ll also find luxury glamping tents and the largest pick your own flower field in Northern Europe. The latter is open from July to October and spread over a 2 kilometer route.
The award-winning Forest Tower is 45 meters high and 900 meters long. From the top there are 360 degree views of South Zealand and the forests of Gisselfeld.
On a clear day you can see Copenhagen and Malmo from the viewing platform which stands 140 meters above sea level. The tower is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs.

4. Santa Elena Skywalk, Costa Rica
One of the most popular things to do in Monteverde, the hanging walkways at Sky Adventures take you through pristine cloud forest. This rainforest canopy walk close to the town of Santa Elena spans several canyons and five bridges, with heights up to 70 meters.
Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is known for its howler monkeys and bird life. After the guided trek, you’ll also get to visit a hummingbird garden.
If you want more of an adrenaline rush, you can also take a zip line tour. The longest Monteverde zip line is 770 meters.

3. Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, Australia
Located in Tingledale, Western Australia, this famous canopy walkway leads the visitor through the Walpole Wilderness, an important conservation area. Designed to protect the valley’s red tingle trees from soil compaction, the treetop walk opened in 1996.
600 meters long, the highest point is 40 meters. This walkway is fully accessible for wheelchairs and also for most strollers and prams.
There is also a ground level experience, the Ancient Empire boardwalk. This gives you another perspective on the ancient tingle forest.

2. Golden Bridge, Vietnam
This extraordinary 150 meter long pedestrian bridge is situated within Sun World Ba Na Hills amusement park. 18 miles from Da Nang, the Instagrammable walkway features two giant hands supporting the structure.
According to the main architect, Vu Viet Anh of TA Landscape Architecture, the aim was to “invoke the sensation of walking along a thread stretching through the hands of God.” Sitting 3,200 feet above sea level, this is certainly one of the most beautiful bridges in the world.
Visitors access the Cầu Vàng Walkway by a cable car ride. The theme park itself features adrenaline rides, the French Village and ornamental gardens and Wax Museum.

1. Treetop Walk Bavarian Forest, Germany
Also known as Baumwipfelpfad Bavarian Forest or the Bavarian Forest National Park Walkway, this is an unmissable experience if you’re visiting this region of Germany.
The world’s longest tree top walkway, it meanders 1,300 meters through the forest. The pathway has a gentle gradient, leading to a 44 meter observation platform nicknamed the tree egg.
On clear days you can see the Alps from the top. Close to the walkway at ground level, there’s the Waldwirtschaft restaurant and beer garden and Café EISENMANN.

There’s also a treetop walkway planned at an upcoming ecological resort in Foyle, Northern Ireland. It has been designed by Grimshaw, the studio behind The Eden Project in Cornwall.
In June 2021, the Senda da Tschemas walkway is due to open in Laax, a Swiss alpine resort. At 1.5 km, this will become the longest treetop walkway in the world. There’ll also be a 73 meter long slide.
