1.2 tonne jackfruit from Tripura exported to London

Practically 1.2 tonne of contemporary jackfruit from Tripura was for the primary time exported to London on Friday, in a transfer that would probably increase exports of agricultural and processed meals merchandise from the northeast.

The jackfruit have been exported by Kiega Exim, which sourced them from Krishi Sanyoga Agro Producer Firm of Tripura. As a part of the trial run, a consignment of 350 jackfruit was on Thursday shipped to Delhi from Agartala for its export to the UK, state horticulture director Phani Bhusan Jamatia mentioned. If this export is profitable, the exporter could buy 5 tonne of jackfruit from Tripura each week, Jamatia mentioned.

Earlier, pineapples and lemons have been exported from Tripura to West Asia. Lately, the primary consignment of iron-rich crimson rice, grown in Brahmaputra valley, was exported to the US from Assam.

“Selling merchandise from the northeastern area is a thrust space of the Agricultural and Processed Meals Merchandise Export Growth Authority,” the company’s chairman M Angamuthu mentioned.
