Lucy Liu has officially joined the cast of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2019’s Shazam!
Liu will play the villainous Kalypso, a daughter of Atlas and the sister of Helen Mirren’s Hespera. Liu is joining Zachary Levi, who’s reprising his title role, as well as new cast members Rachel Zegler and Mirren. The nature of Zegler’s role is unknown at this time.
David F. Sandberg is directing the sequel from a screenplay by Henry Gayden. The sequel will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “Shazam!” is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam!
After ending her seven-season run as Joan Watson for CBS’ Elementary, Liu boarded starred in Marc Cherry’s dark comedy series Why Women Kill. Next, she stars alongside Jackie Weaver in Stage Mother, which tells the story of what happens when a conservative church choir director inherits her late son’s San Francisco drag club. Lit is no stranger to action-adventure films, of course, after starring in films like Charlie’s Angels, Kill Bill, Lucky Number Slevin, and more. It should be lots of fun to see her step into the role of a DC villain, let alone one that wields an untold amount of power.
