Review: Dubliner Irish Whiskey and Honeycomb Liqueur

Irish whiskey continues its rise with the relaunch of Dubliner — or The Dubliner, if you happen to like — which slaps a brand new emblem and bottle design on its two everlasting expressions plus an ongoing “beer cask sequence” of particular editions. We didn’t get any of these to take a look at, however we did obtain the mainline choices, a straight-up bourbon casked Irish and, unusually, a whiskey liqueur. Whereas unabashedly and expressly designed for Millennials, right here’s what a Gen-Xer has to say concerning the duo.

Dubliner Irish Whiskey Bourbon Cask Aged – A 3 yr previous mix of single malt and grain whiskey, aged in bourbon casks. Younger stuff, and a bit hard-edged. The nostril is toasty with barrel char and closely toasted granary notes, with undercurrents of bacon fats. Rustic on the palate, these meatier parts give strategy to a relatively harsh booziness, fading finally to choose pretty conventional notes of caramel, recent cereal, hemp rope, and burlap. The end finds room for a little bit of soothing milk chocolate, however as Irish whiskeys go, it’s pretty plain. 80 proof. B / $30

Dubliner Whiskey & Honeycomb – Previously bottled as “Dubliner Irish Whiskey with Liqueur and Caramel Coloration” (and actually that’s what our pattern bottle says), although that doesn’t actually roll off the tongue. Far much less candy than the everyday whiskey liqueur, this has a powerful present of hazelnuts, milk chocolate, and a touch of raspberry. Gently candy however by no means overly paying homage to honey, the liqueur is agreeable, although the nutty parts come to dominate over time, which can throw some drinkers off. 60 proof. B+ / $30
