Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel, Disney+

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. began life firmly connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with guest-stars such as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Jamie Alexander’s Lady Sif putting in appearances, and there were frequent direct references to events of the films. But as time went on, it became clear that the big-screen and TV side of the Marvel franchise were at odds, and at a certain point, it felt as though Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just decided to go its own way.

With WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we’ve seen what a TV show truly connected to the MCU looks like, and while fans have long debated Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s place in MCU canon, Disney may be quietly removing the series from canon themselves. Take this with a grain of salt, but a recent Reddit post shows that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (as well as Inhumans, Runaways, and Agent Carter) has been added to the Marvel Legacy Movies and Series section on Disney+ in a handful of international regions including Brazil. This could indicate that Disney is looking to distance Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially now that their own Marvel shows are doing so well, or, you know…if could mean nothing. I’ve checked Disney+ myself, and at least where I am (Canada), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. remains alongside WandaVision and the rest of the MCU.

There have been rumblings that Marvel is looking to include small-screen characters from the Netflix-era of shows in future movies, such as Charlie Cox’s Daredevil returning for Spider-Man: No Way Home, but nothing official has been revealed. As Marvel is looking to explore the multiverse in its upcoming movies, I’d say that there’s room for all incarnations of Marvel projects under one (giant) roof. What do you folks think; should Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. be removed from Marvel canon or does it still deserve a place at the table?
