Finch: Tom Hanks film Bios retitled and heading to AppleTV+

It’s become quite clear that Apple is all about taking a bite out of films starring Tom Hanks. Apple TV Originals recently won the rights to Finch, an Amblin Entertainment sci-fi film formerly titled Bios. Originally, the film was supposed to be released by Universal, but seeing as things change, especially during a pandemic, Finch will go to Apple TV+ just in times for awards season.

Helmed by Miguel Sapochik, who shot some of the most jaw-dropping episodes of Game of Thrones, such as the Emmy-winning “Battle of the Bastards” episode in Season 6, Finch boasts a script by first-time screenwriter Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, an associate producer on films like Blade Runner and Alien.

In Miguel Sapochik’s Finch, a man, a robot, and a dog form an unlikely family, as the man tries to ensure his beloved canine companion will be cared for after he’s gone. Hanks stars as Finch, a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has left the world a wasteland. Finch, who has been living in an underground bunker for a decade, has built a world of his own that he shares with his dog, Goodyear. He creates a robot (played by Get Out‘s Caleb Landry Jones) to watch over Goodyear when he no longer can. As the trio embarks on a perilous journey into a desolate American West, Finch strives to show his creation the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive.

This Apple’s second turn at hosting a feature film starring America’s sweetheart, Tom Hanks, after landing the World War II thriller GREYHOUND from Sony Pictures. Hanks also has another major project in the works called Masters of the Air, a WWII event miniseries developed at HBO. Hanks is set to executive produce the aforementioned project with his Playtone partner Gary Goetzman and Amblin Television. The miniseries is directed by No Time to Die‘s Cary Joji Fukunaga and is currently in production under strict Covid-19 protocols.

Oh boy, is it just me, or does Finch sound like a potential tearjerker? You know that Old Man Hanks is going to die at some point in the film, right? That robot had better have its act together when taking care of that dog, or we’re going to have words.
