The final episode for Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier aired this past Friday, which gave us, among other things, a new Captain America. That’s right, folks, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) is your new shield-wielding soldier of justice. Obviously, Sam taking up the shield has been a long time coming, but the journey was fraught with personal sacrifice and self-actualization. As it’s explored throughout the show, it means a lot to see a black man holding the shield, and Sam wants the world to know that he’s up to the task.
To mark the momentous occasion of Sam finally accepting his place as the star-spangled superhero, Marvel Studios had unveiled the final poster for what is now called Captain America and the Winter Soldier. In the poster, we find Mackie’s Sam Wilson dressed to the nines in his new Captain America suit. As you can see from the image posted below, he makes the outfit look damn good.
Shortly after the final episode for The Falcon and the Winter Solider hit the air, Marvel Studios announced that Captain America 4 is in the works. The film comes from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman, who co-wrote the series with Dalan Musson. Both creatives will help steer the new film. While Disney is remaining very tight-lipped about the plot, Captain America 4 will likely continue following Sam Wilson as he explores what it means to be Captain America. For the moment, there is no word as to whether Chris Evans will appear in the film as the original Captain America.
The full first season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is available to stream on Disney+ right now. Disney has yet to announce plans for a second season.
