Biggar and Leith debuts Gladstone Axe whisky

US-based spirits producer Biggar and Leith has created a brand new Scotch whisky model impressed by a former UK prime minister.

The creator of Hotel Starlino apéritifs has unveiled two expressions underneath The Gladstone Axe Malt Whisky model – The Gladstone Axe: American Oak and The Gladstone Axe: The Black Axe.

The American Oak is aged and completed in American oak Bourbon barrels, and produced with whiskies blended from 14 Highland and Islay malt distilleries. The Black Axe features a larger proportion of Islay malts, leading to a smokier flavour profile.

The model pays tribute to former UK prime minister William Gladstone, and was created by Gladstone’s great-great-great grandson and founding father of Biggar and Leith, Elwyn Gladstone.

Gladstone mentioned: “We’re actually excited to be launching a brand new blended malt whisky bearing the title of my ancestor who was an excellent figurehead.

“In 1860, he signed the Spirits Act which allowed the mixing of Scotch whisky for the primary time, basically creating the Scotch whisky trade as we all know it right now.

“I’m proud to have the ability to honour him with this thrilling new trendy traditional whisky.”

The 700ml bottles show the historic determine with up to date colors, wax caps and embossing on all sides.

Founder Gladstone commented that his household origins are in Scotland, and the previous prime minister had a love for the nation, as soon as claiming: “There’s not a drop of blood in me that’s not Scottish.”

On the nostril, The Gladstone Axe: American Oak presents hints of wealthy vanilla, whereas The Black Axe presents notes of spice and fruit.
