Even as the world’s governments, research institutions, and medical responders bravely fight the COVID-19 virus, there are those in the general population that are also braving the streets and continuing their lives while the threat of the virus still looms large in the background. But what about in a post-COVID-19 world? Will we really still need to go out looking like we’re just a step down from wearing hazmat suits?

The good news is that keeping ourselves safe and protected in a world after COVID-19 isn’t just possible; it’s actually pretty easy. With a few basic essentials, plus some time to get used to new safety precautions, we can all work towards a future where dealing with COVID-19 can be more manageable.

So, forget about full-on hazmat suits and pseudoscientific gizmos. Here’s a list of what you really need to survive and thrive in a post-COVID-19 world.

1. Cloth Masks

Investing in a few face masks with a neck strap is one of the best decisions you can make to protect yourself and other people from airborne pathogens. Consider buying some five to six cloth masks instead of just one or two so you can have extra gear while laundering the ones you already used.

Remember that cloth masks need to be routinely washed to give yourself the best protection when you’re out buying groceries, working, or just going for a stroll. As such, it helps to have a new pack ready just in case the ones you used haven’t been washed just yet. Recent studies have also shown that wearing a tight-fitting cloth face mask over a surgical mask could provide better protection than just wearing either one alone.

2. Hand Protectors

Keeping our hands clean to prevent the spread of common and serious illnesses is important in a post-COVID-19 world. But when you’re outside of your home, you’re likely to encounter situations where you’ll need to touch surfaces that other people also touch frequently.

Aside from religiously washing and disinfecting your hands, it’s also convenient to wear a hand protector or an arm sleeve that creates a protective barrier between your skin and any high-touch surfaces. Be guided that wearing a hand protector is never a substitute to hand hygiene practices recommended by health experts, but they can definitely help in terms of boosting your protection.

3. Hand Sanitizer

One should never leave the house without at least a small bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer to prevent the spread of pathogens. Hand sanitizers are especially convenient when you’re not able to wash your hands,  particularly after touching items that other people frequently hold or exchange,  like cash and business cards. Just make sure the sanitizer you’re using is made with at least 60% alcohol solution.

4. Liquid Soap

At-home social gatherings such as birthday parties and dinner celebrations are sure to return even with the threat of infectious diseases still in the back of our minds. If you want to keep the fun going, your own home should always have a good supply of liquid soap so everyone can continue having a great time while minimizing the spread of harmful viruses and bacteria.

5. Antimicrobial Wipes

Many agree that a thriving post-COVID-19 world is one where people can confidently go back to traveling for vacations, business trips, or just leisurely visits to family and friends. One item you should never be without for any kind of trip is a pack of antimicrobial wipes. They’re not just great for cleaning your hands; they can also be used for quick cleanups in case of spills, especially when traveling with the kids.

6. Cashless Payment Solutions

Physical money can also serve as a medium by which pathogens spread from person to person, so now may be a good time for more people to consider going cashless. The good news is that we may not be so far from a cashless economy as some may think. There are now various electronic wallet services and online financial solutions we can use for faster and safer payment transactions.

There’s no doubt that COVID-19 has indeed transformed how people around the world go about their daily lives. But some would say that the precautions we’re following now, such as regular handwashing and social distancing, may not only be good for our health, but also for the preservation of our economy and our way of life. So, if you’re missing some of the basic essentials shared in this post, now’s a good time to get them.
